The Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, has been declared the Trailblazer of 2021 by the Statewide Waste And Environmental Education Foundation (SWEEP).
The award is in recognition of Odumbona’s contribution to the waste management sector in Lagos State and in Nigeria,
The LAWMA MD clinched the award at the 2021 Lagos Waste Forum which held on Thursday, 20th of May, 2021 at the University of Lagos.
Pakam App, the brain child of Mr. Odumboni also won the Waste IT Innovation award of the year.
Pakam App, the first in this side of the world, is a mobile application that allows residents of Lagos State to key into the Lagos Recycle Initiative from the comfort of their homes.
According to the organisers of the Lagos Waste Forum, the high-level citizens’ forum on waste reduction and management is dedicated to harnessing opportunities in the public and private waste management industry for national development.
It also recognizes NGOs, cooperate organizations, funding agencies and Individuals with Sustainable Project/Activities that address different dimensions of environmental and waste management issues in Nigeria.
Speaking at the event with the theme; “Green Financing And The Future of Circular Economy”, Odumboni dedicated the award to all youth who dare to dream and pursue their dreams.
“This award is a win for all of us. This award is to all the staff of LAWMA who work day and night to ensure smooth running of the agency. I dedicate this award to all the youth who dare to dream and live their dream,” Odumboni said.
In a related development, the Waste Management Society of Nigeria, WAMASON, has awarded the Innovation and Sustainability award to Mr. Odumboni in recognition of his contribution and positive impact in waste management and environmental sustainability,
The LAWMA Boss was also inducted as an honorary fellow of WAMASON at the event that held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday, 21st of May.
This recognition and award, which comes barely twenty hours after the first, is believed by many, to be a testament to the fact that Mr. Odumboni has set the pace and standard that cannot be marched in the waste management sector in Nigeria.
The LAWMA Academy, Lagos Recycling Initiative, LAWMA Street Marshal, Pakam App, Rebranding of the Highway Sweepers, Repositioning and Decentralisation of the Agency are some of the initiatives of Mr. Odumboni.
Earlier in the week, while addressing the staff of LAWMA in a virtual meeting to mark his one year in office, Mr. Odumboni said that it was not yet time to relax and count the wins, but a time to take all that has been achieved in the last one year and build on them.
He said that it is a time to reflect, refuel and reconcile not just operations, but personal differences that may have sprung up in the last one year.
He noted that it is only in working together as a team and in one accord will the agency reach its desired height.
He commended the management team and every staff of LAWMA for their immence contributions and support in the last one year.
