.as FG rallies State Governors for assistance
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday disbursed N6.3 million to the 314 Nigerians returning from South Africa.
Sanwo-Olu added that each of the returnees would be given N20,000 each to assist them in settling down in the country.
The Governor, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Disapora, Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, handed over the funds to the returnees at the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Ikeja.
“He saw their plight. As a palliative before they are finally reunited with their families”.
He stressed that aside the funds, they would be engaged for employment through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, LSETF to acquire skills that would “assist them get on with their lives”.
Earlier, the Chairman, Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed that the Federal Government has concluded plans to rally State Governors to assist the returnees in reintegrating better into the society.
“The good thing is that they are back home to where they can get the best care.
“The Bank Of Industry, BOI will be giving them soft loans aside the N20,000 cash they will be receiving from the Lagos State Government.
“Going forward, we have decided to rally the State Governments to support them. And that is why we have started profiling them according to their state.
“And during the first batch, we had about 30 from Ogun State. And 28 from Imo state. After about two weeks, we will get back to them as follow up,” she added.
Abike-Dabiri hinted that the children of the returnees would be offered scholarship to assist them have better education.
