A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Yiaga Africa, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the significant improvement in election management and logistics.
Yiaga Africa members on Saturday were In Ondo state to monitor the 2020 governorship election.
A paper presentation cum press conference in Akure, the state capital on Sunday tagged “post-election observation” which was signed by the organization Co-Chair, Dr Aisha Abdullahi, said that INEC has indeed improved base on their logistics and observation in the conduct of the Ondo election.
He said, “We noticed some infractions like the disruption of the voting process and stuffing of ballot boxes in some areas across the monitored centres, like ilé Oluji, Idanre, Isalu, Oke-Igbo cum vote-buying and interference by party agents through inducement which were recorded in all the local governments across party boards.
“intimidation of voters and polling agents was also recorded at Ago Onipanu unit 4, Asoko Idanre, Oniseere 1&2.”
Yiaga, however, said that the INEC official result for the 2020 Ondo gubernatorial election falls within its estimate.
The organization, therefore, calls on the candidate that won the election, Rotimi Akeredolu, and the supporters to be magnanimous in victory.
They further advised those who did not win to accept the results because they reflect the votes cast and urged all the political parties to show maturity by maintaining peace.
