Recalled Super Eagles skipper Joseph Yobo has been ruled out of Wednesday’s international friendly between the Nigerian team and its Mexican counterpart.
The former Everton defender had hoped to re-launch himself into the squad and possibly lay claim to a shirt in the final squad to the Brazil 2014 World Cup as well as extending the number of appearances for the national team.
But all that hope seemed to have vanished into the thin air following reports by the spokesman for the Eagles Ben Alaiya confirming the non-availability of the Norwich City defender for the match.
Alaiya said Yobo would not be part of the friendly having copped an injury.
In his place, Keshi has called up Fortuna Dusseldorf defender Leon Balogun who is getting his first-ever invitation into the national team.
“Yobo is out of this friendly against Mexico for injury reasons and has been replaced by Fortuna Dusseldorf’s Leon Balogun.
“He is already here with us in Atlanta,” Alaiya said.
Balogun will join the list of three fresh invitees – Ramon Azeez, Imoh Ezekiel and Michael Uchebo handed a chance preparatory to the World Cup in Brazil.
Leon is born to a Nigerian father, Cesar Balogun, and German mother, Orfa, and he is eligible to play for both the Nigerian national team and Germany.
