The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Edo on Tuesday said that it recorded 21 auto crashes from December 19 to 28 in the state.
The Edo Sector Commander, Mr Oluwasusi Familoni, disclosed this during an interview with the reporters in Benin on Tuesday.
Familoni said that most of the road traffic crashes were due to speed violation and lose of control of vehicles.
He said that about 76 persons were injured and 9 people died in auto crashes involving 214 people and 42 vehicles in the period under review.
The sector commander said that one accident occurred on Christmas day at Abudu with no loss of life.
He also said that the Corps held two mobile court sittings in the state during the same period.
He said that a total of 71 offenders were prosecuted, 67 of them were convicted while four persons were discharged.
He said that the major offences were lack of drivers’ licences, speed violation and over loading.
“We started our Operation Zero Tolerance to Crashes on December 19 and it will end January 19, 2015.
“The message is obey road traffic rules so as to ensure safety on our highways,” he said.
