The Senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Hassan Mohammad Gusau, has resigned from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His resignation was conveyed in a latter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and read during the start of plenary on Tuesday.
“My decision is necessitated due to the collapse of internal democracy and factionalisation of the party from ward levels in Zamfara State.
“Further decisions on political movement and party affiliations will be communicated to this chamber in due course,” he said in his resignation letter.
His move may not be unconnected with the decision of the state Governor, Bello Matawalle to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today from the PDP.
Matawalle’s Director-General, Media, Mr. Yusuf Idris had said in Gusau on Sunday that the governor will defect along with all the National and State Assembly members as well as the PDP executives from all levels in the state.
