Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Bashir Ahmed, Personal Assistant on Digital and New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Matawalle, until now was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ahmad made the disclosure on his Facebook page, early Sunday, 27 June.
“So Zamfara is back home. Welcome Mutawalle!” he wrote.
Matawalle is expected to officially announce his defection on Tuesday, 29 June.
He is the latest governor from the opposition PDP to defect to the ruling APC after Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Ben Ayade of Cross River.
The ruling party has said that more governors from the PDP have indicated interest to jump ship in the nearest future.
