The All Progressives Congress APC in Ondo State on Thursday officially inaugurated its campaign ahead of the November 26 gubernatorial election but President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo did not show up at the occasion.
However, the party supporters came to the venue of the event at the popular Democracy Park in Akure, the state capital, in their hundreds to welcome Mr President and his Vice but the duo were not present at the occasion despite the much publicity to the coming.
The absence of Buhari and Osinbajo may be a setback for the APC trying to grapple with its crisis.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State chapter of the Action Alliance (AA) has dissociated itself from a move by some people masquerading under the platform of the party to organize a campaign rally and declare support for APC governorship candidate, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.
The party in a press release signed on Thursday in Akure by Chief Williams Ogunleye, Hon. Joshua Adewole and Mrs Roseline Osaipemen, Chairmen, State Leader and Woman Leader respectively noted that those behind the plot were not members of the party and could not speak or take decisions for it.
“We have it on good authorities that some people masquerading under the banner of our great party, the Action Alliance (AA) have been mobilized to show support for the APC as if we are the ones doing it. It is all a sham and a ruse to shore up support for the APC and we dissociate ourselves from it. Indeed, we have informed the law enforcement agents to place them under arrest forthwith.
“Our party is one indivisible party that is united and has not decided to work or partner with any political party and if and when we choose to so do, it will be with the advice and direction of our national leaders.
“Thus anybody who parades himself or herself as members of AA and is doing any anti-party activities will be sanctioned,” the statement warned.
Further, the AA leaders while assuring of their support for any political party that will take care of the masses and cater for failed infrastructure and not those who will lure fake people to masquerade to be what they are not with their tainted lucre, they disclosed.
