Yewa Council of Oba Condemns Gruesome Murder of Colleague - Gbadebo Oni

Members of Yewa traditional  council of Obas has condemned the recent gruesome murder of Oba Patrick Fasinu, Olowo of Owo Town in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He said the Council has condemned the act saying that it is an abhorrence to the custom and tradition of Yoruba-land.

While addressing a press conference at Yewa Traditional Council of Obas Complex in Ilaro, Ogun State. He said such evil should not be allowed to go the way of similar cases across the country without bringing the perpetrators to justice.

It could be recalled that Oba Patrick Fasinu was assassinated by unknown gunmen while returning from Yewa Traditional Council meeting in Ilaro on Wednesday evening .

It was learnt that after his assassination along Ijako-Isagbo road in Oke-Odan, Yewa South Local Government, the gunmen also set his corpse ablaze.

But speaking on behalf of the Council, the President Yewa Traditional Council, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle who was represented by Oba Gbadebo Adesola Oni, Olu of Imashai has called on Police to intensify efforts in fishing out the perpetrators.

“We are aware of the arrest of three suspects in connection with the case already in the Police custody. We hereby call on the Nigeria Police and the Ogun State government to please ensure that those behind this inhuman and degrading act are brought to bear the wrath of the law”.

In his own contribution, the Eselu of Iselu Oba Akintunde Akinyemi bemoaned the fate of the monarchs in Yewa-land, arguing that some of them had been attacked in past, recalling that a traditional ruler was killed along Igbogila road in 2011.

He said despite official reports made by the traditional rulers in the area on these incidents to the security agencies, nothing tangible was done.

Also, the Onijoun of Ijoun, Oba Rasak Adewusi while reacting said, “This is a very sad incident in Yewa land known to the generality to be the most peaceful among other regions in Ogun State,”

Oba Adewusi said he recalled that in April 2011, a traditional ruler was also assassinated at Igbogila Yewa and up till now there was neither clues to the findings nor any arrest of his killers made.

“The gruesome murder of Olowo of Owo is totally condemned and not acceptable by me and other traditional rulers in Yewa land and Ogun State at large,” he said, adding: “As a matter of urgency, the Nigeria Police Force has to swing into action to bring the perpetrators of this illicit act to book.”

He stressed: “It is now clear that people have no little respect for the institution of traditional rulers. Life and properties are no longer safe anywhere despite government and police efforts to reduce crimes to the barest minimum in the nooks and crannies of Ogun State.”
