Kidnapping reared its ugly head again on Monday as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), ex-presidential aspirant and chieftain of the Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, Chief Olu Falae, was kidnapped.
Reports reaching WESTERN POST indicate that Falae was seized by unknown kidnappers from his farm in Ondo State.
Details of the kidnap are still sketchy. But it was learnt that the octogenarian was said to have gone to his farm at Ilu-Abo, a town very close to Akure, Ondo State capital, around 1 pm this afternoon.
Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Mr. Wole Ogodo, confirmed the kidnap. He said details of his kidnap and possible whereabouts would be made known soon.
Falae served as Minister of Finance and later Secretary to the Government during the military administration of President Ibrahim Babangida. He said about 50 armed policemen have been moved to his farm.
He later ran for the presidency in 1991 on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party but did not make it to be the party’s presidential candidate.
In 1999, he was the presidential candidate of the All Peoples Party and Alliance for Democracy who lost to President Olusegun Obasanjo in that election.
