There was a pandemonium in Ogbomosho area of Oyo State on Saturday as some people suspected to be political boys were apprehended with over 500 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
The incident, which occurred at the Orita-Sekoni area of the town, according to an eyewitness, witnessed sporadic shootings by men of the Nigeria Police to save the suspected culprits apprehended by people from being lynched by the irate mob.
The eyewitness said the suspects, who drove in Honda Accord car with the registration number AR 892 LUY, were stopped by residents of the area after a tip-off, while the driver of the car was still at large.
According to him, the policemen had to shoot sporadically into the air to scare the irate youths, who were bent on an instant judgement for the suspects.
Another eyewitness (name withheld) alleged that the suspects were political boys of one of the governorship candidates.
Efforts by newsmen to get details from the police in Ogbomoso proved abortive, as the officers harassed and threatened the newsmen.
One of the police officers nearly destroyed a video camera belonging to the Nigeria Television Authority reporter as soon as he was sighted filming the development .
