Who really wants former Oyo State governor and Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, dead? The rumour mill was awash with the news last week that the former governor had passed on. He was said to have collapsed last Wednesday and rushed to the hospital. The rumour had it that Akala had delayed the NEC meeting of Labour Party where the party adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate. The speculation was contained in a report on the website (https://crownbam.wordpress.com. It later assumed a life of its own later as people were passing the information round. But Akala was conspicuous at the meeting; he participated at the talks and did not collapse after it all as well. Many knew it was a phantom wish. Akala has been the butt of all kinds of jokes in recent times, with some saying he could hardly work. Yet the former governor was always seen working with his legs at political events. Is the incessant rumour about the former governor a sign that he is waxing stronger in the race and his opponents are just out to decimate him? This is because, according to his aide, the campaign of calumny can only be put down to politics, to the political machinations of detractors. Oludare Ogunlana, media aide to the former governor, instantly put a lie to the rumour that his principal collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. Ogunlana is the Director of Public Affairs to Akala. Ogunlana also pointed accusing fingers in the direction of APC. But pray who really is behind Akala’s death rumour?
