Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has said his younger brother and immediate-past Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Femi Mimiko, is not interested in becoming the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as it is been rumoured across the country especially in the South-west states.
Mimiko disclosed this in Akure while speaking with newsmen at Government House Alagbaka, Ondo State.
He also said there was no iota of truth in the rumour making the rounds that the presidency was planning to remove Prof. Attahiru Jega, and appoint Prof. Mimiko as new INEC Chairman.
President Jonathan had said during his recent media chat that he was planning to remove Jega even though he has the power to hire and fire.
Some online portals had long linked Prof. Mimiko with the INEC chairman job. Prof. Mimiko, like Jega, is a political scientist.
He ended his tour of duty as Vice-Chancellor of Ondo State University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State in January.
