The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Lagos East Bye-Election, Mr Tokunbo Abiru, has said that he would surpass the achievements of his predecessors if elected, saying that his goal is to positively impact the lives of the people.
Abiru said this in Ikorodu Town Hall on Friday while addressing the party faithful. He stated that he would facilitate the completion of federal roads in the District, promising not to disappoint the party leaders and members if elected.
“I will not disappoint your trust in me. I will not derail from the ideals of the APC and I will as well do better than my predecessors if you elect me in October 31 bye-election”, said Abiru.
The former Polaris Bank MD stated that he would use his connections and contacts gotten over the years for the betterment of his constituents, stating that he would engage more in youths empowerment and poverty alleviation if elected.
Abiru charged members on House to House campaign, adding that all hands must be on deck to win the bye-election.
“We should reach out to our neighbours, friends and families in this district to vote for APC. We must work together to deliver the 100,000 votes for our party.”
Earlier, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun, said Abiru is not a stranger to the party, saying that his father was a former senator who represented the district between 1979 and 1983.
Bashorun added: “I want to urge our people to do better than previous elections. In the last Senate election, Ikorodu had 43,000 votes. In 2011, Ikorodu had 21,000 votes. This time around, we have to deliver 100,000 votes.
“Ikorodu has 682 polling units, our members should ensure they deliver all these polling units for the party. It is now time for us to mobilise and campaign vigorously for our candidate. We will do door to door and house to house campaign,” said Bashorun.
Also, the Chairman of the Campaign Council, Chief Olusanya Kaoli, who introduced the candidate to the party faithful, said Abiru would become the rallying point for all interest groups in Ikorodu, saying, “the unity of the party would aid the victory of the party at the polls.”
Kaoli stressed, “In the last general elections, we had a low score which was not encouraging. It was only during the 2019 governorship election that we had 43,000. If all local councils in Ikorodu division can work assiduously in this coming bye-election, we will certainly achieve the 100,000 targets.
He, however, tasked party faithful to work hard to double their scores in all the wards, saying that if the target is achieved it would make the district to get more patronage from the party.
“We have been complaining of marginalisation, we have been given Abiru, if we deliver on October 31st, we will certainly get more from the party. To the youths, Abiru is a role model for you. He is well educated and experienced. He has integrity and he is also honest. Go to your various homes, talk to your friends and family members to vote APC”, said Kaoli.
Some of the prominent APC Chieftains present at the event are; Former Deputy Governor, Prince Biodun Ogunleye, Chief Bode Oyedele ( Vice Chairman, APC Campaign Council), Hon. Abike Dabiri, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade ( Majority Leader, Lagos House of Assembly), Bar. Ademola Sodeeq ( Lagos APC Legal Adviser), Hon. Jimi Benson ( Ikorodu Federal House Of Representative), Hon.
