The management of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency, LAWMA, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set the bar high and is now currently regarded as one of the most improved and innovative agencies in Lagos state.

To ensure that this feat is sustained, the Managing Director of LAWMA, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni, reactivated the monthly workers’ forum platform. This is to ensure the staff of the agency is carried along, informed and well equipped to function effectively.

For the month of September, the forum held yesterday, September 23, at the Ijora Olopa headquarters of the agency.

The management and staff came together to discuss, deliberate and decide on issues arisen. The highly interactive session saw staff members take turns to speak, share opinions, ending with a question and answer session, moderated by the LAWMA Boss, Mr Odumboni.

Much like Sanwo-Olu’s government, it was an all-inclusive session, as sweepers, waste handlers, mechanics and everyone one present, irrespective of ranking, were given equal time and opportunity to speak. Several internal issues were raised and addressed.

Miss D, the head of the commercial department, Lagos West district, commended the MD of LAWMA for giving the workers an opportunity to freely express themselves without fear or reproach.

“The staff love it, they are all here. Given the opportunity to see and talk to the MD, you know at times they believe when you are a top management staff, they can’t come to you. So this gives them the opportunity to talk to the MD and he is a good listener.”

According to Miss D. this management/workers, interactive forum is building morale, helping with the productivity of the workforce. Adding that Mr Odumboni is an MD that cares for the welfare of the people.

Excited about this forum, Ali Aminu, a Mechanic with the LAWMA’s Maintenance department, says he looks forward to the monthly workers’ forum because he has the opportunity to talk face to face with the MD and express himself.

“I want this forum to continue because all of us are carried along in the scheme of things. We all know what is happening at every time and whatever we have questions, we are given the opportunity to speak, so I want this meeting to continue.”

Since its commencement, the LAWMA’s management/workers interactive forum has proven to be very instrumental in the advancement the agency is currently basking in.
