Following the violence which erupted on Thursday at Agiliti, Mile 12 Area of Lagos, the state Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has closed Mile 12 Market.

In a broadcast to the people of the state, Ambode also ordered the closure of some streets.

He urged the leaders of the area to eschew violence and embrace peace’

The violence had disrupted the peace of the market as many vehicles were vandalised.

Some allegedly lost their lives in the fracas but the casualty figure could not be ascertained yet.

Sources said apart from the vehicles, properties worth several millions of naira were destroyed in the violence said to be between some Yoruba and Hausa traders and transport workers.

One eyewitness told Channels Television that a motorcycle operator popularly called Okala had knocked down a man but despite entreaties that he should take the injured man to the hospital, he ran away.
