The Oyo State House of Assembly has given directives to the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLAs) of the 33 local governments in the state to take over the headship of the administration of the council areas with immediate effect.

The Speaker of the state’s assembly, Hon. Monsurat Sunmonu, announced the decision on Thursday during a plenary presided over by her.

The decision is believed to have enjoyed the support of Governor Abiola Ajimobi who has come under attack for not conducting Local Government election since he took over office almost four years ago.

According to Speaker Sunmonu, the HLAs who are to work with other transition council members, are to take charge in view of the expiration of tenure of the caretaker committee chairmen.

The Speaker further directed that the Auditor-General for the Local Government in the state should appear before the House at the Parliamentary Caucus of the House on Monday, February 23rd, 2015 with audited copies of the activities of each local government for the past three years.

While speaking under Personal Explanation, the lawmaker representing Oorelope State Constituency, Hon. Adesope Azeez, appealed to  Governor Abiola Ajimobi to do everything within his reach to fashion out the appropriate means of ending the judicial workers strike in the state.

Azeez said the prevailing crisis arising from political campaigns and unrest in the society could not support judicial workers’ strike, stressing that even those arrested could not get bail or be tried in the court of law as a result of the strike.

The House has, however, adjourned till Tuesday, February 24th, 2014.
