Last week, Wande Ojosipe, popularly known to us all as Wande Coal, split (for the second time) from the Mavin crew put together by the same producer and business partner of the initial group, Mohits Records, Don Jazzy. As is the norm, reasons were that his time had come and they were splitting over irreconcilable differences.
Even God gives second chances- but regardless of the reason put out, prior to the split (though its’ likelihood had been manifest right from the beginning) Don Jazzy had publicly announced via social media, Twitter, that the recently released track by Wande Coal was in fact an intellectual property theft of his that was produced a year ago. That, to me, was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. Wande has left two record labels so far and gone ahead to start his own label, in which he has received his, maybe not first, but reasonable endorsements so far. While he was at Mohits/Mavin, Wande complained of being overshadowed by the favourites of the producer. Could the split be his miracle in disguise? Or will the Mushin boy be worse off for it?
