Governor Akinwumi Ambode on Saturday said Lagos is too cosmopolitan not to have credible elections.
He said this at Ogunmodede College, Papa-Epe after voting at 9:44 am.
According to him: “We are pleased that voting has commenced in every Local Government. The whole thing has being the people thus far and I hope it is peaceful throughout. I also commend the security officers, they have done so much to make sure the security is good, so I urge people to exercise their civic rights.”
The Governor of Lagos State emphasised that what is important to him is to organise a free and fair election that will enhance Nigeria’s democratic values.
He said reports reaching him say everything is peaceful, adding that he just expected things to work out well.
Ambode told journalists in an interview after he voted that Lagosians have to perform their civic rights so as to put credible people in the Local Government.
In his words: ‘We have being advocating for participatory governance and if you don’t do your part , you won’t be able to choose people who will touch your needs, it won’t be our fault when they give you bad result and am happy this is coming in his time.
Ambode noted he was so far impressed with Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
